As a parent of three college athletes (two current, and one former) I know that nutrition is typically the LAST thing on their minds when it comes to them preparing for their sport. Recently, my middle son, a senior who plays soccer for William Jewell College, decided that he was ready to take his training to the next level. We knew that incorporating Amy’s nutrition program was the FIRST thing he needed to dive into. Amy has designed the program in such a personal way from being “conversational” in her presentations to having simple to print off handouts for quick reference. Knowing that most college athletes are juggling travel, school, social engagements, games, practices, and trainings, Amy’s “Eating Out” module was especially helpful for my son. From helpful charts, colorful photos, and simple explanations for what is a seemingly in depth and somewhat complicated subject matter, Amy’s humor, down-to-earth, and intelligent demeanor has encouraged my son to actually get excited about using food and fuel to up his game!

Amy Dirks made it possible for me to stop worrying about leg cramps and just concentrate on my training.  I’m a 60-year-old competitive field hockey player.  For the past 5 years I’ve been struggling with leg cramps severe enough that at times I have crawled off the field, unable to stand up.  I’ve worked with other nutritionists and trainers: more water, less water, sports drinks, bananas, cherry juice…  I’ve never met Amy in person, but it took her no time at all to figure out that I needed more salt and set me up with both a homemade sports drink recipe to address the issue and a packaged alternative for when I travel overseas.  The cramping problem was resolved overnight.  I just returned from an 8-day tournament with temperatures ranging from 95 – 98 degrees and I never had a cramping issue.  In addition, Amy has given me nutrition advice that is easy to put into action and has opened my eyes to how much more I can do to improve my performance and health through a more educated approach to my diet.  I look forward to continuing to learn from Amy in the years ahead.
